Project Context
Catapult is a Satellite-technology innovation company based in the UK. Their goal is to support UK industry by accelerating the growth of satellite applications, and they hope to collaborate with UAL to design a website which is supported by satellite technologies to help people understand and discover the relationship between satellite technology and their daily life.

Introduction
We may not always realise it, but we depend on space technology orbiting the Earth. We explore the connection of satellites and emotions, and firmly connected to our own experience , four of our teammates for overseas students from China, due to the Covid-19, home is not that accessible as it used to be.
The homesick radio is based on this backgroud, you can use this website, to compose your own hometown rhythm, and share with people who have same feeling as you, this is not only a song for your city, but yourselves.
Richard Hollingham曾说过：“我们并不总是意识到我们有多依赖绕地球运行的卫星。我们的很难想象如果我们完全失去卫星信号，地球会发生什么”
人类的确依赖着围绕地球运转的太空技术，尽管他们曾经并不在意。在这次与Catapult公司的合作项目中，我们需要去探索卫星与情感之间的联系，我们希望我们自己的生活中的经历可以带给我们启发。我们有四位来自中国的海外留学生队友，由于Covid-19，我们往返故居不再像以前那样方便，在这种无法返回祖国的情境下，我们十分思念我们的家乡，想念家乡各种熟悉的声音。
而思乡收音机就是基于这种背景下被设计出来，您可以使用这个网站来编写自己的家乡节奏和音乐，并与有您一样感觉的人分享，这不仅是属于您城市的歌，也是您自己的歌。
Emotional Connection
In the globalization world, people immigrate from their hometown to another city for a living, according to a recent Gallup World Poll, 1.1 billion people, or one-quarter of the earth’s adults, want to move temporarily to another country in the hope of finding more profitable work. An additional 630 million people would like to move abroad permanently.
When we miss home we can make a video call, it is the communication satellites support this behavior.When we fly back to our hometown, GPS system play an essential role in this scenario.
There were lots of cases like that, make us feel like satellites have superpower to eliminate the geographical barriers.
根据最近的盖洛普世界民意测验，在这个全球化的世界中，人们从家乡移民到另一个城市谋生，11亿人，即地球成年人的四分之一，希望暂时移居另一个国家，以期找到更有利可图的工作。另外还有6.3亿人希望永久移居国外。
当我们想念家时，我们可以进行视频通话，这是通信卫星支持我们通话的行为。当我们乘坐交通工具回家乡时， GPS系统在这种情况下起着至关重要的作用。

After reading the articles on technologies used by satellites, we also conducted a brainstorm on the relationship between human emotions and the services provided by satellite technology. We've found that satellite communications actually help people build their social networks, and help them communicate with friends from a long distance and release their feeling of homesickness.
在阅读了与卫星技术相关的文章后，我们就人类情感与卫星技术所提供的服务之间的关系进行了头脑风暴。我们发现卫星通讯实际上帮助人们建立他们的社交网络，并帮助他们与来自远方的朋友交流，这些虚拟的社交网络在一定程度上帮助人们缓解了思乡的情绪。

Quantitative Analysis
1. We found that people usually feel homesick at night when they were alone, and they said they we are homesick most when they are in a living place and a natural environment.
2. In what context do you feel most Homesick, people said that when they feel lonely and helpless and sick, they miss their hometown very much. And some old photos, as well as folk music, will remind them of their hometown.
3. We also asked participants to fill in three sounds that they thought were closely related to homesickness. Many of them mentioned the language of their hometown and the sounds of everyday life in their hometown. Some of them missed the sounds of the natural environment in their hometown, such as the sound of seagulls on the beach in Florida.

- What do you usually do when you feel homesick?
1. 67%的受访者在晚上一个人的时候会想家，他们说当他们在日常生活的地方和一个自然环境的时候最容易想家。
2. 50%的受访者反映，当他们感到孤独无助，生病的时候，他们会非常想念家乡。一些老照片和民间音乐会让他们想起自己的家乡。
3. 我们还要求参与者填写三种他们认为与思乡病密切相关的声音。35%的人提到了他们家乡的语言和他们家乡日常生活的声音。他们中的一些人怀念家乡自然环境的声音，比如佛罗里达海滩上海鸥的声音。
我们对14个人进行了半结构化用户访谈，然后根据对小组调查结果的回答构建的相似性图表，得到了一部分结论。许多受访者认为，在疫情期间，当他们听到来自家乡的音乐时会感到非常思乡，音乐在某种程度上帮助了他们回忆了家乡的种种故事。

It has long been established that there are powerful connections among sound, music, emotion, and memory, and that our personal experiences and preferences determine the type and intensity of emotional response we have to various sounds. As an example, research has revealed these widespread associations between certain sounds and emotions: The sound of a thunderstorm evokes a feeling of either relaxation or anxiety and wind chimes commonly provoke a restless feeling.
Sound can affect people's feelings, and it reminds people of many scenes in their minds. There are many voices in the city, such as the sound of children playing, the noise from the food market, and so on. Some people love listening to wide-range reception radio to able to feel they are a part of this large world. However, at quarantine time we cannot even go out from room or house, and have totally lost connectivity with our world. We hope to create an immersive experience by stimulating the sound in the city, allowing users to remotely hear the sound of their hometown and feel like they are back home. This project is all about letting you feel that you are part of this world, and you can also send a message and share it with others.
